Global Fat Bike Day 2015

Wednesday and I in Purgatory
Wednesday and I in Purgatory with the Mutt Mitts

Yesterday, Tonka Cycle and Ski hosted a Global Fat Bike Day Ride again this year. 30 plus Men, women, and children met at the shop. 10:30 am arrived, and the riders broke off into fast, faster, and uber-fast groups, and then we all rolled out of the parking lot.

Wednesday and I rode with the middle group. It was about 40 degrees, and a far cry from last year’s freezing temps. There would be no lake or pond riding this year since the temps have been so warm. We had to forget about riding any single track either. The ground would be way too soft to ride without doing damage. The groups stuck to paved, icy trails and snow and ice covered crushed limestone paths that in the sun turned to muck.

From the shop we went south and then west and then turned north and ended up in Purgatory Park where I had our photograph taken. From there we rode north some more until we were stopped by Highway Seven. East we went until we found the culvert that went under the highway that let us head north again. After a bit of screwing around we went south on Shady Oak Road and back to the shop.

It was 13:30 when Wednesday and I rolled in. The blue TCS tent was up in front of the shop, with a grill heating up brats and the ambient temperature cooling cereal malt adult beverages.

Lots of riders from all groups were loitering and talking, swilling and ingesting.

According to the smiles and banter I experienced, everyone had fun riding.  They were still having a great time at the TCS tent when I left for home.

Ben, I believe this is the day I spotted your group eastbound on the trail from Williston Rd. I talked briefly to Tyler while he was “GoPro-ing” your group. It was a sunny beautiful day. Sounds like you had a great time.
