Did you notice that these blog posts have revolved around bicycles lately? The BB subhead is Bikes, BBQ and Boy Stuff.
There has been a shounder of pork shoulders slowly smoking in my Lyfe Time Pit of late. She Who Must Be Obeyed deemed it my duty to provide pulled pork and sauce for Bunny and Thumper’s 2nd / Minnesota wedding reception. A few briskets have also been sacrificed to this cause.
Even as we type, 18 half racks of back ribs are slowly cooking on my other cooker. It is an old Oklahoma Joes offset pit. It is similar to my Lyfe Time, but bigger in diameter. Today the reason for all this cooking is in the title of this post.
Only lump charcoal need apply.
For almost every holiday and moon phase She Who Must Be Obeyed organizes the neighborhood by illegally putting missives in their mail boxes . We meet on the unused right of way for Woodhill Road. The city owns this property. It is between our shack and the neighbors house. Years ago someone set up a 1/3 basketball court on this piece of ground. Kids sled there in the winter and the mostly adults have pot luck get togethers there.
In olden times, someone would wheel over a gas grill and I would cook whatever folks brought. I started smoking pulled pork and She collected $3 from anyone who wanted to partake. The gas grill never came back. The fare varied between pulled pork, brisket, and pork ribs.
Todays ribs have been lovingly rubbed with my own concoction. I call it ID10T because it has some Jerk leanings but is not quite as spicy hot. Some children even like it. When the ribs are done smoking, they will be slathered with my sauce and finished with direct heat on Maria’s unwanted charcoal grill.
